UPDATE: The Corps of Engineers is accepting public comment in the form of letters until June 18. Please send your comments to: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, L.A. District, Regulatory Division, Ventura Field Office, ATTN: SPL-2010-00354-SDM, 2151 Alessandro Drive, Suite 110, Ventura, CA 93001.
The proposed landfill is located on a 1,700-acre site north of Escondido, located approximately three miles east of I-15 and two miles southwest of Pala, adjacent to the San Luis Rey River along the western slope of Gregory Mountain.
Conservation groups, Native Americans and local residents have opposed the measure. A judge ordered that an early environmental impact report be redone, and this hearing allows public comment.
