CA Voter report shows Democrats gaining
The latest report from California Secretary of State Debra Bowen’s office shows Democratic voter registration is up and Republican registration is down. Statewide, Democratic registrations have increased from 42.7 percent to 44.5 percent. Republican registrations have decreased from 34.4 percent to 30.8 percent. Decline to state registrations have increased from 18.5 percent to 20.2 percent. These figures compare registration for the 2006 primary and for this year’s primary.
The report shows 51,718 voters registered in the City of Escondido. Of those, 22,633 registered Republican (43.7 percent), 15,362 registered Democrat (29.7 percent), and 11,119 declined to state a party affiliation (21.5 percent).
In the 50th Congressional District, the report shows a total of 379,363 voters registered. Of those, 153,030 registered as Republicans (40.34 percent), 118,756 registered as Democrats (31.30 percent), and 90,908 declined to state a party affiliation (23.96 percent).
In San Diego County, the report shows 2,089,215 people eligible to vote, but only 1,416,273 registered voters. Democrats lead, barely, with 514,536 registered (36.33 percent). Republicans have 509,023 registered (35.94 percent) and 327,906 voters declined to state a party affiliation (23.15 percent). Four years ago, Republicans held a five point lead in registrations in San Diego County.
