Police, fire unions endorse mayoral candidates
Escondido police and fire unions have endorsed different candidates for mayor, and neither chose Council member Sam Abed. Police endorsed Council member and Mayor Pro-Tem Dick Daniels; firefighters endorsed former Council member Tom D’Agosta. Endorsement by these unions can be crucial. It was firefighter opposition to former Council member Ed Gallo that helped Olga Diaz gain election in 2006.
