Endorsement fails; EDC members rate both Emblem and Busby acceptable
In a fiercely competitive discussion of endorsement in the 50th Congressional District, EDC members rated both candidates ‘acceptable’ during the May 8 meeting. A motion to endorse EDC member Francine Busby failed to achieve the 60 percent majority required. A subsequent motion to endorse EDC member Tracy Emblem also failed. Then separate motions to rate Emblem acceptable and to rate Busby acceptable each passed.
In other votes, EDC members endorsed Howard Katz in the 49th Congressional District, Gila Jones in the 38th State Senate District, Crystal Crawford in the 47th Assembly District and Dr. Paul Garver in the 75th Assembly District. Members also voted to oppose Propositions 14 (open primary), 16 (utility voting) and 17 (auto insurance) and to support Proposition 15 (public financing of some elections).
Fabio Marchi was rated acceptable in his race for the San Diego County Board of Supervisors District 5.
