President’s Message: Go Team gets going
Greetings Fellow EDC Democrats!
March remained a busy month for the EDC. As I serve in the role of President, I feel I am continually exposed to how many of our members who are engaged in a spectrum of Democratic Party and related community activities. When one looks at all of our engagement points, it is quite impressive and inspiring and, I would add, a point of pride for the club. We should all feel good about our association with each other.
It also illustrates that the goals of the 2008 election and the associated work to accomplish those goals is formidable. As the mid year election cycle heats up, so does the demand on our club. The good news is that we are responding – so far. But as the pace quickens, I would ask that you all look for ways to contribute no matter how small. The challenge we face will not be met without the cooperation and contribution of everyone. Let’s keep the faith with the vision of our president to bring about the changes we sought in 2008 and by so doing, make Escondido and by extension our American community realize its full potential.
I wrote last month – “One only needs to look at the EDC website, to see how many issues directly affect the club membership. One also only needs to look at the magnitude of those issues and see that not one person or even one club is enough to respond to them with the resources they demand.” I think I could leave that line in this letter every month. The tasks are not trivial and need our attention. One bright spot to that end was the kick-off meeting for the GO team. It was very clear at the meeting that there is a movement to better coordinate the efforts of the GO team with the goals of the North County Democratic Clubs and OFA. This is good organization and smart business. I left the meeting inspired that we will make an even greater impact this election cycle.
The EDC attended the County Party Central Committee meeting. In lieu of a Council of Clubs meeting a North Area Central Committee meeting was held in conjunction with Pre-endorsement voting for Region 20. The EDC was represented at all of the meetings and the focus of effort was on the upcoming primary election – endorsement of candidates and propositions. Results were published on the EDC website.
Finally, the Roosevelt Dinner is Saturday, April 10th. Again, this is a great time to see some of the local Democratic luminaries in a setting of camaraderie and sense of purpose. And we will celebrate EDC’s selection as Club of the Year and Rick Moore’s selection as Volunteer of the Year.
Let’s continue to turn North County from red to blue.
