Severe cuts proposed for Escondido budget
The news is getting worse and worse. Dick Daniels and Olga Diaz, the two city council members who comprise the budget subcommittee, have released a new set of proposed cuts they say could balance the budget. They include closing the branch library, the arts center, city pools, and several parks. Layoffs would cost 44 full-time and 23 part-time employees their jobs, in addition to workers at the arts center. The council will discuss the proposed cuts at its March 3 meeting. City budgeting is the subject of EDC’s March 13 meeting.
