General Plan Update
As part of the Planning Division’s ongoing efforts to keep the community informed of the City’s General Plan Update efforts, two important agenda items related to Escondido’s General Plan are scheduled for City Council consideration on Wednesday, August 19th at 4:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.
- The San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) will present information on the 2050 regional population forecast planning efforts. At issue is the concern that the build-out of all the region’s general plans will fall approximately 70,000 dwelling units short of the anticipated growth forecasts by the year 2050. Most of the population growth (2/3) will be the result of fertility and mortality rates; in-migration represents approximately 1/3 of the projected growth. SANDAG’s presentation will focus on options to accommodate the anticipated population growth to meet state mandates.
The City’s General Plan Update Webpage has been updated to include three SANDAG reports on the regional population forecast planning efforts. Scroll down to “SANDAG 2050 Population Planning Efforts (Series 12).”
- Following SANDAG’s update to the City Council, staff will discuss options for garnering additional citizen input on the General Plan Update and discuss the next steps on the update process. The staff report for this item will be available after August 13th and a follow-up e-mail will be sent containing the staff report will be sent.
