Club members continued to promote Democratic issues and values at the Sunday, May 17 Escondido Street Faire. (Editor’s note: EDC member Noel Steiner provided an eloquent description of the important role the Escondido Library has played in her family in remarks she made to the May Club meeting. Her comments were so on-point, we felt they were worth including here.) Those attending the May EDC meeting were briefed on a new effort the Club is starting to help the Escondido Library during these difficult economic times. Past President Rick Moore described the program, as yet unnamed, that will encourage Escondido residents to donate “wish list” items to the library through Amazon.com and the local Barnes [...] At the conclusion of a wide-ranging discussion of how libraries can be relevant to their communities in changing times, County Library Director Jose Aponte described three options for the financially embattled Escondido Public Library. The library has struggled with significant budget cuts that have forced it to reduce hours, programs, and materials purchases. By Margaret Liles EDC Members Rick Bova, Grace Sloan and Chris Nava were honored for their contributions to the Democratic Party at recent events in Sacremento and San Diego. |
