By Rick Bova An overview by Lisa Prazeau, President of the Escondido Chamber of Citizens Earth Day has some and gone, but you can have a long-term impact on those who surround you. Take note of the people, organizations and communities that you find your self living amongst, and work to bring about change in those areas where you have influence. For those members who are watching the Gregory Canyon Landfill process, the Regional Water Quality Control Board has scheduled a hearing on the environmental impact report for the proposal from 2:30 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 29 in the City of Escondido Council Chambers. Word from Washington is that Democrats are again focusing on Rep. Brian Bilbray for the 2010 campaign. His 50.2 percent level of support leaves him vulnerable to so-called “Obama Republicans,” who may support a Democrat if things are going well with the Obama program. Here are a selection of recent articles on the topic… “The biggest problem we have in health care is the for-profit insurance companies,” said Sylvia Hampton, a veteran health care activist and health director of the League of Women Voters of San Diego County, as she presented to EDC’s April 9 meeting. “That giant sucking sound” you head is the money they pull out of the [...] “The biggest problem facing us is that another billion people are born every 13 years,” said John Seager, president and CEO of Population Connection, as he spoke to the April 9 EDC meeting. Francine Busby told the EDC meeting April 9 that she will announce as a candidate for the 50th Congressional District seat now held by Republican Brian Bilbray. |
